This year marks a major milestone: 25 years since Dion Snowshoes was founded by Bob Dion in the hills of southern Vermont. What began as one runner’s quest to build a better snowshoe has grown into one of the most trusted names in winter performance gear—serving athletes, outdoor adventurers, and snowshoe enthusiasts across North America and the globe.

We’re celebrating the trail that brought us here—shaped by craftsmanship, constant refinement, and the people who’ve helped build this community from the ground up.

Where It All Began

In 2000, Bob Dion—a competitive ultrarunner frustrated with the clunky, unreliable snowshoes on the market—decided to build his own. Armed with a background in mechanical design and a deep understanding of racing demands, he created a brand-new modular snowshoe system: lightweight frames, interchangeable cleats and bindings, and quick-release bindings designed for comfort, control, and performance.

Those early models weren’t made in a factory—they were hand-assembled in Vermont, tested on trails, and refined over time. Dion Snowshoes quickly found a following in the snowshoe racing world, and its reputation grew by word of mouth.

Dion-NeviTREK continues to design and manufacture most of our products, particularly our snowshoes, in the United States, staying committed to quality craftsmanship and the needs of the racing and winter recreation communities.
